Alternatively, you can download the plugin manually Unzip it and upload it to the plugins folder of your WordPress installation (wp-content/plugins/ directory of your WordPress installation). Activate it through the ‘Plugins’ section. Use the Settings -> Search box on Navigation Menu to configure the plugin
Yes, it will work with any standard theme.
By default it will use theme style. You can add class (there is option) and add custom CSS under Customize > Additional CSS
Please make sure you have configured the plugin settings from Settings -> Search box on Navigation Menu
