Upload the plugin files to the /wp-content/plugins/plugin-name directory, or install the plugin through the WordPress plugins screen directly. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ screen in WordPress. The plugin can be triggered by typing 4 or more characters into the title field in the admin’s add /edit post pages.
Post, pages and custom post types are supported. The title check will happen while adding or editing these post types. These post types titles’ will also be matched against and shown.
The title is checked against all published (public and private) post types. This includes other post types.
It is a simple check. Just exact and similar. Relevancy (how similar) is not a factor.
This plugin sends requests to the server and database to find matching post titles. Several techniques are used to reduce the number of requests such as waiting for 4 characters before initiating the first search and delaying new searches. This has been tested with a site with 1000+ posts which was on optimized hosting for WordPress. It performed with no issue. However, the performance of much larger sites is unknown and it would be helpful if comments could be left about anyone’s experiences (good and bad please).
